Objectives of the expedition
The hot air balloon is an ecological method of transport, which holds many technical advantages that an aircraft propulsioned by a motor could envy to poses.
Unifying strengths between Hot Air Ballon pilots and Scientists, gave the possibility to fulfill two important aspects:
- The first aspect is purely scientific and extremely useful to understand the current state of climatic change that has manifested itself in such an imposing manner in this last decade. The flight over the summit of Kilimanjaro will allow to carry out a series of preeminent analyses of the glacier and the volcanic smoke from the main crater using an infrared detection system. The numerous scientific data collected will remain at the disposal of science and mankind.
- The second aspect is certainly the fact that such an enterprise has not yet been realized with an aerostat. It will be the first time in world history of a scientific hot air balloon expedition. The advantages behind using a hot air balloon in this research is undoubtedly the possibility to maintain close proximity to the volcano and its environment, which gives the best possible opportunity for the scientists engaged in this enterprise.
